• Capital of the Veneto region
• Located in the marshy shoreline of the Po
• Major power during the Middle Ages

PIAZZA SAN MARCO

• Dominated by the church of saint mark
• Western face has great archways of marble
• Torre del'Orologio was completed in 1499
• West end of square was rebuilt by Napoleon
• Piazzetta San Marco is a smaller adjoining square
