Proverbs 1

Wisdom comes in the context of God’s word and God’s people.

Wisdom has kaleidoscopic
meaning.

Wisdom is found in relationship with the Lord.

Wisdom is the alternative to folly.

Wisdom stretches through God’s revelation, revealed fully in Christ.

"To reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments." - Col 2:2-4

"Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men." - 1 Cor 1:24-25

"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock." - Matthew 7:24

We have two voices, two paths, two choices...

Discussion Questions

  • What voices offering wisdom do you hear around you today? What kinds of wisdom are they offering?
  • People choosing the path of folly don’t need an argument; they need a person. How does Proverbs show that truth, and how have you witnessed it yourself?
  • How can we encourage others around us to follow the path of wisdom?

Would you join me over the course of the month in asking God for wisdom?

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. " - James 1:5-6

Would you join me over the course of the month in searching the Scriptures and reading through the book of Proverbs for wisdom?
