WERNHER VON BRAUN

The man that sent humans to the moon

He was born in Germany in 1912. He wasn't good at maths or physics as a teenager. When he was 25 he joined the Nazi Party. He got a doctorate in physics and began working on torpedoes for the Nazis. In 1944, missiles designed by von Braun were launched England killing thousands. After the war, he became an American citizen and began work on their space program. In 1969 the rocket designed by von Braun sent Neil Armstrong and two other astronauts to the moon and back. He died of cancer in 1977.
