Objectives

  • Understand the process of implementing the Wellness policy, evaluation and support of the plan
  • Leave with tools that will move schools in the Red Clay School district forward in regards to the wellness policy.

Healthier school community population means:

  • Decreased absenteeism in both staff and students
  • Controlled health care and insurance costs
  • Improved employee morale
  • Improved performance for students and employees
  • Healthy role models for students Increased motivation to practice healthy behaviors

Elements of District Wellness Policy

  • Stakeholder Inolvement/Participation
  • Educate district families about nutrition
  • Increase physical activity
  • Promote school based events and activities that will promote wellness
  • Integrate nutrition and healthy eating into school culture.
  • Grow our own

All stakeholders must be involved in the development, implementation and periodic review of the wellness policy.

Changing Food and Beverage Offerings

  • All food and beverages sold or served will be evaluated for their compliance with the Wellness Policy.
  • School fundraisers and vending machines will comply with the Wellness Policy

The key elements of a successful implementation

  • Assessing current food sales by venders
  • The communication of approved vendor list
  • Student taste testing
  • Marketing new foods
  • Evaluating revenues

Celebrate Accomplishments

  • Principals can send out congratulations through social media and the use of the school district website.
  • School assemblies to recognize student, parents and outside interest
  • Getting the local media involved by tracking the success of the healthy incentive.
