  • Toccata et fugue was written for organ. It was written sometime before 1708.
  • It also has an association with western culture with horror films.

EYES

  • Everyone knows how Beethoven suffered with his hearing but, not so many people are aware that Bach struggled with his eyesight. In fact, botched surgery on his eyes by the English ocular specialist John Taylor reportedly caused Bach’s death in 1750.

BACH’S WIFE

  • Bach married his second cousin Maria in 1707. She was the mother of seven of the 20 children- but only four made it to adulthood.

  • Bach’s extended family included court musicians, teachers, composers, and church organist. Something that young Johann would grow into.
