  • He was ordered by George Washington
  • George Washington is the first president of the U.S. and a soldier.
  • He served presidency 1789 to 1797 and died December 4 1799

  • President George Washington hated his Executive Mansion because the ceiling was too low.
  • A lady invited to George's party got her hair burned because she caught it on a chandelier.

  • The roof wasn't finished and it leaked.
  • The windows didn't have glass on them
  • There was no bathroom except a port-a-potty
  • They fixed it for the next president

  • He was the one who told William Clark and Meriwether Lewis to explore the Louisiana Purchase and they brought back bones and he put them in his East Room too.

  • Millard Fillmore's wife, Abigail, was a school teacher and was didn't approve of their being no books in the White House. She added the first library in the White House.
  • Millard Fillmore was more interested in food so he installed stoves and ovens.

  • Theodore Roosevelt said his house was too small for his family. He made the West Wing, and moved all of offices into the second floor and made new floors and a panel for his trophies.
  • Rats had lived in White House walls and were disturbed and stole food and terrified anyone in their path.

  • 4 years and $5 million dollars later he moved back after everything was renewed.

  • They wanted to hide it so enemy planes couldn't bomb the White House so they put a high fence.
