Water Pollution Effects on Earth

General information

• 40% of rivers and 46% of lakes in the US are too polluted for swimming and fishing.
• Polluted Drinking water is a problem for half of the world.
• The lack of safe drinking water can lead to deaths and many diseases.
• 1.2 trillion gallons of waste end up in Americas fresh water.

The Gulf oil spill

What really happened?

• The deep water horizon rig exploded killing 11 people.
• The pipe was leaking oil on to the sea floor.
• 3.9million barrels of oil had leaked into the ocean.
• This was the worst oil spill in US history.

Clean up
What have humans done to help with the clean up?
They have put up booms to help stop the spreading,that also put out things to absorb the oil.

What have humans done to cause this problem? Humans cause some of these problems because they dump trash in to the waters. The industries, factory's dump waste on to the sea floor.

What have humans done to prevent this problem in the future?
They have to control the spread of the oil using physical barriers. Then they use tools to remove the collected oil.they use sorbents to mop the trace amounts.
