Free Verse:
Litany
It might interest you to know,
speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world,
That I am the sound of the rain on the roof.
I also happen to be the shooting star,
the evening paper blowing down an alley
and the basket of chestnuts on the kitchen table.
-Billy Collins
Free verse is a kind of poem written without rhythm, rhymes, or specific structure.
Tonight the moon is a cracker,
with a bite out of it
floating in the night,
and in a week or so
according to the calendar
it will probably look
like a silver football,
and nine, maybe ten days ago
it reminded me of a thin bright claw.
