Definitive Definition-
Culture is the beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society, group, place, or time

Personal Definition-
Culture is a certain society's way of life, and how they choose to live.

MAKING A CULTURE-

The elements of culture are...
Social organization: When people are put into smaller groups or social classes.
Language: A form of communication to pass on traditions or beliefs.
Customs and Traditions- The way people treat each other and their behavior.
Religion- A form of beliefs like Christianity or Judaism.
Arts and Literature- A way to teach the culture's values and to express pride.
Economic Systems- The way the people make their money (Four Types: Traditional, Market, C…

Cultural Research

Culture: 1940's America (WW2 Era)

Physical Characteristics-

People in the 1940's in the midst of war, which caused a lot of cultural change to happen. The women got to taste independence as the men were off fighting the war. African Americans were inspired to no longer accept a lesser status. The whole culture revolved around the war, strengthening America's patriotism.

Customs and Beliefs-

During this era, there were things called Scrap Drives, which helped the government build things for the army to use out of scrap steel and other metals. There were also Victory Gardens that people would have in their yards. This is how the army got 40% of it's produce. The radio was also very important during this time period, providing families with entertainment and news. Patriotism was strengthened during this time because of the war overseas.

Challenges-
World War Two was the biggest challenge during this time. The whole culture revolved around it.

Literature and Culture-

Literature is influenced by current events, life experiences, and other aspects of culture.

Literature-

Literature is different from life because they provide and escape from the real world. They are like life in the sense that we feel we can relate to the events and characters in literature.

Culture relating to Literature-

Literature reveals a cultures values by expressing them. Literature is a tool used for expression.

Understanding Culture-

Our understanding of our culture and society is contracted through literature by showing what we know through it. Our understanding grows through literature.

Universal-

Some themes are universal, and are common in all cultures. These themes contain things that every human goes through, like happiness, depression, or family.

Cultural Acceptance-

We can promote cultural acceptance by exposing cultures to other cultures, and being openminded to other ways of life.

Cultural Understanding-

Our relationships with people and cultures are at stake if society chooses to discriminate other cultures.
