BEGINNINGS

  • 1836: a mexican force sieges the Alamo, a texan fort
  • Davy Crockett, james Bowie, and William Travis
  • These leaders led a small group of resistance for 13 days
  • This symbol of defiance showed the drive for independence for the Texans

BACKGROUND

  • Spanish settlers came in 1718
  • Converted native americans until 1793
  • Affer mexico got its independence, they had troops stationed at the alamo
  • In 1821, 300 US families settled in texas
  • In 1835, a group of texans captured the alamo.

  • 200 troops troups were stationed there, led by sam houston
  • One of the troops was davy Crockett
  • On feb 23, 1836 mexicans attacked the fort, and kiled most of the texans
  • On april 21, sam houston and 800 texans attacked and retook the fort.
  • Their victory ensured texan independence.
