WHAT DID THE MUSLIMS THINK OF EDUCATION?

  • The Muslims valued education highly
  • Muhammad himself said, "The ink of scholars is more precious then the blood of martyrs."

INNOVATIONS THAT THE MUSLIMS MADE

  • In 830, the Caliph al-Ma'mun founded the House of Wisdom
  • It was a massive library that contained many books
  • People visted from every where to see this library
  • Other libraries were built in other Muslim settlements, like Cairo
  • This library had 400,000 books

OTHER THINGS ABOUT MUSLIM EDUCATION AND LEARNING

  • Since all the Muslims had a shared language, they shared ideas with each other
  • They tried to think with logic and reason, like greek philosophers, such as Plato
  • They also tried to bridge faith with reason
