ATARI 2600(VCS)

• Originally released as the Atari VCS in 1977
• One of the first systems to use microprocessors
• One of the first to use cartridges, instead of the usual built-in games
• Originally had six chrome switches and heavy internal RF shielding
• Models released after 1978 had reduced RF shielding to make it lighter

ATARI 2600

• The black "Darth Vader" consoles released in 1982
• First consoles to be officially called 2600
• Had no woodgrain in front

• Sold as VCS to compete with Channel F
• Changed to 2600 after 5200 release
