F. SCOTT FITZGERALD

BY; JOEY CHRISTOPHER, PERIOD 7

WHY FITZGERALD WAS DIFFERENT THAN OTHER AUTHORS

- True to himself, in which means that his words can be more accounted for.
- Believed there was a bigger picture in that he wasn't his parents child but was the son of "The King of the World".
- Outcast vs. The Rich

BELIEFS OF FITZGERALD

- Dreaming allows us to strive to reach the pinnacle of all our deepest desires.
- The pinnacle is to be rich and then to keep on getting more rich.
- Prep schools such as Princeton were primarily based on reputations of students, and what social class their families belong to.
- When we reach all of our "Golden Moment" it does not last forever, meaning we need to keep working to prolongue the moment into a lifestyle.

REASONS TO WRITE GATSBY

- He wanted to write his own literary masterpiece, in which was very personal and left Fitzgerald very vulnerable, and nothing was left out.
- He wanted to write something that would totally change the world and its views on "The American Dream".
- Gatsby was Fitzgerald in the way of his personality and the ways he carried himself.

PROHIBITION

- The prevention by law to sell and or distribute alcohol, during 1920-1933.
- Speakeasies: Secret gatherings or parties in which you had to know someone in order to know the info and to be on the lit to be allowed inside.
- Alcohol was served even though it was not legal.
- Began to increase the crime rate of gangs or mobs.

ARNOLD ROTHSTEIN

- Nicknamed "The Brain" was a Jewish-American racketeer, businessman, and a gambler who had become the king pin or head of the Jewish Mob in New York City during the 1920's.
- One of the first to turn organized crime into thuggish activities.
Turned the mob scene into an empire, almost like an oiled machine with him at the top leading it.
-"Understood the truths of early century capitalism."

FITZGERALD'S OPINION ON THE UPPER CLASS

- Fitzgerald read a story about Bigger animals such as elephants who are loud and slow that were bossing around smaller animals such as foxes who are sneaky and quick.
- He personally admired the smaller animals, saying that the smaller animals were those that were not the rich people and had to be intelligent in order to keep on living.
- The bigger animals were the rich people who are always attempting to show that they are better and do not need to work as hard for they already made it big.
