WHO WAS THE YEAR FOUND AND FOUNDER OF SUGAR LAND?
- Stephen F. Austin
- In 1823, Stephen F. Austin was given the charter to settle 300 American families in Texas. The land granted in Fort Bend County was very fertile and set the stage for Sugar Land's rich agricultural heritage. Sugar Land found its strength in sugarcane production.

The primary focus of Sugar Land's GRP is the surface water treatment plant that is located near Gannoway Lake and draws its water supply from Oyster Creek. Construction of the 9 million gallon-a-day treatment plant began March 2011 and was completed in August 2013.
