So What is OCD?

And What are the Symptoms of it?

About OCD
OCD stands for Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder.It is an anxiety disorder which affects 3 in 100 people.People may experience having obsessions or compulsions or both but people with OCD take it to the extreme with causes a lot of distress.

An Example is when people often wash their hands out of the fear of germs is caused by an uncontrollable thought.

Obsessions

Obsessions are having involuntary and seemingly uncontrollable thoughts images or impulses that often can be distracting.

Compulsions

Compulsions are behaviours or rituals that people feel the need to act out again and again (usually in an attempt to make obsessions go away.)

There are actually 2 parts of OCD, Obsessions and Compulsions in which both links together with having Symptoms.

5 Common Symptoms

  • Washers
  • Checkers
  • Doubters and Sinners
  • Counters and Arrangers
  • Hoarders

Examples of thoughts related to Obsession

  • Fear of being contaminated by germs
  • Fear of causing harm to yourself or others
  • Fear of losing or not having the things you need
  • Order of Symmetry

  • Excessively checking things
  • Repetitively checking loved ones
  • Counting,tapping repeating certain things
  • Spending a lot of time washing or cleaning
