EARLY YEARS Born on the 29th of February.Born in a town called Pesaro on the Adriatic cost of Italy. He was raised into a family of musicians.His father was a horn player and an inspector of slaughter houses. Rossini's mother was a singer and a daughter of a baker.Rossini's father was very sympathetic to the French Revolution. He cared for Napoleon's troops which led him to being sent to prison. He spent a year there in prison, and afterwards his wife took him to Bologna to begin a career, which left Rossini to be cared for by his aging Grandmother. Rossini's father did instruct him on how to play the harpsichord for 3 years.
EDUCATION Rossini was eventually taken from his father and apprenticed a blacksmith. He then found a congenial music master and learned to sight-read, play accompaniments on the piano, and sing well enough to take solo parts in the church at the age of 10. In 1806 he became a cello student under Cavedagni at the Conservatorio di Bologna. The year following that he was admitted to the counterpoint Padre Stanislao Mattei. Learning the cello came very natural to him, but he did not enjoy learning from Mattei, he enjoyed learning more from the quartets and symphonies of Haydn and Mozart. Rossini was known as "il tedeschino". Which means the little German on account of his devotion to Mozart.
EARLY CAREER His first opera was produced at Venice when he was 18 the name of his opera was called La cambiale di matrimonio (The Marriage Contract)In the span of about 3 years Rossini produced a variety of successful operas. By the age of 21 Rossini established himself as the idol of the Italian public. In 1815 he retired to his home in Bolagna where Domenico Barbaia, the impresario of the Naples theatre, contracted an agreement that made him a musical director of the Teatro di San Carlo. He was to make one opera a year for each.
The Barber of Seville The Barber of Seville was Rossini's most famous opera. It was produced on the 20th of February. The opera was composed roughly between 2-3 weeks.
Between 1815 and 1823 Rossini Produced 20 Operas. Rossini married the renowned opera singer Isabella Colbran. The same year of their marriage they moved to Italy which his operas were being raged with audiences. In 1823, his manager suggested that he should move to Paris. Rossini's popularity was so great in Paris that Charles X gave him a contract to write five new operas a year, and at the expiration of the contract, he was to receive a generous pension for life.
