Living for Christ

What does Christian living look like

Ephesians 5:7-20

7 Don’t participate in the things these people do. 8 For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! 9 For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.

10 Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. 11 Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. 12 It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. 13 But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, 14 for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said,

“Awake, O sleeper,
rise up from the dead,
and Christ will give you light.”
Living by the Spirit’s Power
15 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. 18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. 20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

impacting our environment

now a real possibility
Rom 15:14

Live a fruitful life

Ephesians 5:10-14
Authenticate what satisfies or pleases the Lord

word used to describe the refinement of gold or silver, burning off the impurities

1. Bearing fruit - see John 15

exposed by confronting or admonishing that which is fruitless activity

2. Fruitful activities

instead of shameful ones

3. Fruitful stories

repeat the stories of life that lead to fruitful outcomes

4. Fruitful assessment

all the things listed up to this point.....

to be confronted, evaluated in light of ....THE LIGHT

passive voice - which means light by nature has n exposing effect, a confronting impact on those in darkness

to visibly inspect the fruitfulness of their activity....

it will be exposed eventually

those who act in the darkness seldom appreciate being exposed

may not even be aware...

2 Timothy 2:23-26

certainly never appreciate being confronted with the Scriptures

5. Wake up and turn to Jesus

the source of the light

He is the Light Jn 8:12

Live with your Eyes Open

Ephesians 5:15-20
Live with your eyes open - LOOK! pres imp

Eph 5:16

Col 4:15

use something efficiently

God breaks into our lives even when the times are evil

3. Look at the big picture

how does it all fit together

pull your thoughts together

use your head!

(Illus. Love the Lord your God.....your mind...Mk 12:30)

4. Walk in the fullness of the Spirit

stop getting drunk

keep on letting the Spirit fill you

SING! - together
by yourself

5. Give Thanks

its sharing how the good grace of God has impacted your life....we will share together in just a moment what is sometimes called The Eucharist,,,,

to be grateful in response to a favor someone has done for you or shown you

a form of prayer - saying thank you to God for safe travel, the character of God, answered prayer etc.

a reference to the celebration of the Lord's sacrifice for our sins

for everything

to God
