PRESENTATION OUTLINE
So... what are we doing here?
- Today you youngsters are going to learn about memes, which I'm sure we are all familiar with. Mainly because we're surrounded by memes. They're on your phone, they're printed in your room and haunt your dreams in bed. Memes. We will go through the birth and growth of memes from 1976 to 2016! Let's go!
In 1976, a nerd named Richard Dawkins published a book named "The Selfish Gene", in which he had a nerd breakdown and was trying to make a word on how certain ideas spread throughout people like wildfire. He tried and tried and he phrased it as "meme". Voila!
Of course, in 1976, the internet wasn't common until the magic day in the 1990's when gigantic computers (you remember those dear children) and by the invention of YouTube and computer animation programs came the child Richard Dawkins gave birth to. As if Richard Dawkins left his child to the unknown and the unknown became the internet. It was waiting for the internet to update more and more until this modern age where it has come to rise... What I learned from this subject was how many memes there are,the revolution of memes and it´s fun to use school Wi-Fi to look at memes. If I had to give advice for the next seniors is: keep your pictures ready, remember your sites and make sure you are on time bro.
The Golden Era
- The "Golden Era" of memes is basically the type of memes you see around 150 times a month that are all the same format. In the years of 2009-2013 specifically in productions of the thick white font with black edges and weird photos. More on a modern edge but still in the golden era of the meme is Doge. These are the stereotypical memes.
Doge. We all know Doge from somewhere, this dog from China came into the internet phenomena by a 2011 blog brought back into late 2013 to 2013 with such photos of these dogs with random 2 or 3 words in order to not make sense at all like ¨much meme¨
Modern Memes
Since I´m tired of old memes, I´ll be showing, educating you guys from my personal experiences being around memes all the time and discussing this like the intellectuals we all are.
The Frog Trilogy
What is the Frog Trilogy? I´m sure we´re all familiar with at least one of these 3 stars: Kermit, Pepe and Dat Boi. Kermit himself has been through 2 meme eras making a strong comeback and probably will make another. Pepe The Frog had a strong status until Donald Trump´s son forced him against his will to turn evil because we can never have fun on the internet but he will be missed and I´ll cherish the memory of him. Dat Boi is a highly spread little frog who rides a unicycle that started the phrase we still use as here comes dat boi.
Political Memes
From being on Tumblr in 2016, I would like to add a personal touch of election memes. Most that stood out still stands today like Ted Cruz The Zodiac Killer, Jeb Bush and the chair Trump looked like he was humping during a debate with Clinton. Intellectuals. Intellectuals.
