RELATIVE DATING

  • Determining the age of something that isn't quite exact. (EX- I am younger than my parents.)

ABSOLUTE DATING

  • The exact date of something, a precise number. (EX- I am 1 million years old)

LAW OF SUPERPOSITION

  • The law that states that the youngest layer of a rock is on top and the oldest on bottom, and with layer being younger than the one beneath it and older than the one above it.

EXAMPLE OF A FOSSIL

  • An example of a fossil is a once living thing that has been incased in some sort of fluid that has been hardened, so it could have been a sort of sap, but you are able to see it still, after thousands or even million of years, because of the fact that it has been preserved.

WHAT FOSSILS CAN TELL US ABOUT THE CLIMATE

  • By studying the fossil record we can tell how long life has existed on Earth.

WHAT FOSSILS CAN TELL US ABOUT EARTHS LANDSCAPE

  • Fossils can tell us what the surface of the earth used to look like thousands or millions of years ago.

WHAT FOSSILS CAN TELL US ABOUT HOW LIFE HAS CHANGED

  • By studying fossils, we can tell how long life has existed on Earth, and how different plants and animals are now, compared to when dinosaurs and other extinct creatures roamed our earth.

PRECAMBRIAN ERA

  • The Precambrian Era is the era with predominately no life, and the oldest of the eras.

PALEOZOIC ERA

  • This is the era with the most steps. It was the first animals with vertebrae roamed.

MESOZOIC ERA

  • The Mesozoic Era lasted about 180 million years, and was divided into three periods: the Triassic period, the Jurassic, and the Cretaceous period.

CENOZOIC ERA

  • The Cenozoic spans only about 65 million years and it is sometimes referred to as "the Age of the Mammals".

UNITS FOR MEASURING MASS

  • The unit for measuring mass is usually grams.

UNITS FOR MEASURING VOLUME

  • The units for measuring volume is usually either centimeter, or a liter.

UNITS FOR MEASURING LENGTH

  • Units for measuring length can be Inches, Feet, Yards or Miles

  • The tool used to measure a precise or accurate amount of liquid
