MUSIC AND RADISHES
DOES MUSIC AFFECT PLANT GROWTH?
Sergiu Bacioiu
2.
HYPOTHESIS
I thought that music would affect the growth.
The plant that was played the music will grow more
The sound waves would affect the growth patterns
The music will cause the plant to sprout first

RADISHES
Radishes are a cold season root vegetable
They are ready to harvest between 22 and 70 days
Germinate in temperatures between 55 and 75 degrees
Seeds emerge between 4-10 days

WHAT DO OTHERS THINK
Controversy between whether or not it is affected
Most people think that music does affect plant growth
They don't know why for sure, they just have theories
Some people disagree completely with these theories
Others think it isn't the music, but other factors cause it to

THEORIES
The caretaker takes better care when music is played
The sound waves of the music affect the plant growth
It wouldn't be because of the music, but because of the waves.
Some people disagree and say music does not affect plant growth

WHY THIS?
I picked this project because I like music
I have always wondered why music is played in greenhouses
I wanted to do something that took a period of time
I like food, and my family likes gardening and this had both
An ongoing project always keeps me into it, never bored.
7.
HOW DO YOU DO IT?
Music is played for two hours a day
One plant is moved from the room while music is played
You have to water the plants 75mL everyday
Music is played during the two hours for two weeks
All Science Fair Projects. (2013).

WHAT I DID
Started with green beans and radishes
The green beans didn't grow so I cancelled them
Plant "A" was played music, "B" was not
I grew them for two weeks,
Played Justin Timberlake at 7:30-9:30 every night.

RESULTS
Plant A sprouted first
Plant A grew more than plant B
The green beans were cancelled
They did not sprout
This left me with one set of final data

Questions
I thought of a couple of questions during the experiment.
Does the time of day the music is played affect the growth?
Are certain plants affected by music? or all plant?
Does playing music affect the nutrients of the plants?
Does the type of music played affect the growth?

CONCLUSION
I do recommend this experiment
PLANTS ARE AFFECTED BY MUSIC
Picking out the playlist is a lot of fun
No errors were made during experiment
I wish the green beans had sprouted
15.
CONCLUSION (CONTINUED)
Anyone wanting to do this project should
Not everything went as planned
If someone was to do this experiment
Do it in the summer
Let the plants mature fully
