PRESENTATION OUTLINE
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
By restructuring our Literacies courses, expanding our SOL remediation program, and continuing our On-Time Graduation initiatives, we will better support our LEP and R-FEP students' efforts to graduate with their cohort.
RATIONALE
Research over the last ten years suggests the LEP and R-FEP students never catch up to their fluent-English peers (de Jong, 2004; Department of Education, 2009; Slama, 2014); school and county data shows LEP/R-FEP students as West Potomac's fastest growing student subgroup and one of the lowest performing subgroups on SOL exams (“VDOE School Report Card,” 2014; “FCPS Student Mobility,” 2014; “VDOE Cohort Reports,” 2014).
INTENDED OUTCOMES
By identifying at-risk seniors and freshmen using EDSL cohort risk indexes and enrolling students in the appropriate Literacies courses or Project Graduate initiatives, we should see significant improvements in students' EOC Mathematics and English SOL scores and on-time graduation rates.
