In the beginning, the adult butterfly chooses a safe place to lay its egg.

This egg is about to hatch. You can see the larva inside.

Then, as soon as the larva chews it's way out of hone egg, it's very hungry.

A butterfly larva is also called a caterpillar.

As the caterpillar eats and eats, it grows much larger.

Next, the caterpillar forms a chrysalis around itself.
