This article covered 3 goals that have been the root for educational problems for a while now

Democratic equality

  • All citizens need to know as much as possible
  • They must be as educated as possible
  • In order for this, education must be accessible to everyone
  • This will have created a true democracy 
  • With this being said, all citizens are able to contribute

Social Efficiency

  • Everyone benefits from more skilled workers
  • makes education more practical by offering more studies
  • private training for public benefits

Social Mobility

  • The benefit goes to the individual consumer
  • These consumers gain a salary increase
  • This provides further stratification and differentiation between programs
  • Public Ed: Public benefits from people going to college

  • unfettered economic freedom leads to highly unequal distribution of health
  • social mobility helps with social position
  • a high level of shared education is essential to a democratic society

  • equal treatment for social promotion was a major mechanism of reformers
  • purpose of shared education: for students to use their minds
  • So these students can be prepared for responsible citizenship
