Definition: Discrimination directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior.
Differences: Racism is a direct hate for a race & prejudice is discrimination for a race.
Brendan 2.) There are all types of racism in the world we live in today. Some races are just unfairly picked on by the police, government, people of other races, etc… Individual racism are racist assumptions made by the opposite race about one’s beliefs. Institutional racism refers to the law enforcement discriminating the opposite race of themselves. Cultural racism is mainly about the stereotypes of races where people who don't even know the person will automatically judge based off their skin pigment without knowing their background. Internalised racism is when someone gets racially insulted or abused but believe it's right just because that's their race.
I have experienced prejudice. While driving in the neighborhood of midway. I was pulled over by two white female police officers. They asked me for my driver's license and auto insurance during that time the other female officer asked me what high school did I go to and I told them that I go to Marist and both of their response was that “oh he’s fine, he goes to Marist” they didn't even go back to the car to run my ID or anything. They gave me back my stuff and told me that the reason they pulled me over is that you can't have the smell good tree hanging down in the front windshield. I really don't believe that is the reason they pulled me over. They pulled me over because I was a black male driving around in a white neighborhood, but since I go to a mostly white school that I'm fine.
A frat group
African Americans
A racism chant
Because it was aimed at African Americans. Had the word nigger and it talked about lynching
Expulsions and mandatory community service.
It's just a song and it doesn't physically hurt people. People can say what they want.
Because even though it's a song it still hurts people.
Because racism is still going on.
Trayvon Martin. A white male shot and killed a black man just because he was suspicious but wasn't even armed. He had a bag of skittles and an iced tea. He should've approached and confronted him before taking fire.
Was he racist?
Did Trayvon pose a threat?
What did Trayvon do to make the white male feel threatened?
Was this planned?
We can spread awareness by posting all acts of racism to the news showing everyone how wrong it is. If I see someone talking bad about someone of a different race I'll stop it. I don't let racism happen when I see it because I grew up in Chicago. I've seen people call people racial slurs. If I had the power to fix racism I would.
