Colonists feared Britain would take away their freedom of religion.

Britain taxed colonists to pay war debts.

Colonists were angry as Britain imposed new laws such as the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, and Quartering Act.

Boston Massacre- British troops fire muskets into a crowd of unarmed colonists.

The Tea Act resulted in the Boston Tea Party in 1773.

Boston shut down Boston Harbor until the tea was paid for.

In 1774, twelve colonies sent representatives to the First Continental Congress. A petition was sent to King George III to repeal the acts.
