ORIGIN

  • William Webb Ellis invented rugby in 1823
  • First official set of rules made in 1845
  • First international match England vs. Scotland

HOW TO PLAY

  • 2 teams with 15 players each
  • Can carry, pass, or kick ball into the end one to earn points
  • Field is 100 meters long nd 70 meters wide
  • Tackle and ruck to get the ball when the other team has it

  • Unrefined carbohydrates are important for rugby players
  • Barbell push press

  • End of 19th century was when we started to use rugby balls instead of footballs
  • Played in the Olympics for the first time in Paris Olympics in 1900
  • Highest points ever earned was New Zealand with 162 points vs. Japan with 145 points
