"HOW LITTLE CAN BE DONE UNDER THE
Born in Florence, Italy Florence Nightingale was born into a rich family on May 12, 1820. As a kid, she did very well in math, history, philosophy, and literature. She had better academic abilities than most and was considered a prodigy or in other words, precocious.
When she was older, she already knew she wanted to be a nurse, but her parents weren't exactly happy about it. They didn't allow her to be a nurse considering women at that time were supposed to marry and not work.
Instead of following her parents' instructions, she enrolled at the Institution of Protestant Deaconesses and eventually got invited to lead a group of an official party of 38 women and led them to Scutari. Afterwards, she helped nurse at the Crimean War and her and the other nurses saved very many lives.
After helping at the war she met Queen Victoria and told her what was wrong with Army Hospitals.
In her lifetime, she founded modern nursing and made hospitals cleaner. On August 13, 1910 Nightingale died and was later known as the
"Lady of the Lamp"
