PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Thesis:
Through the actions of the characters in Touching Spirit Bear, Ben shows us that change depend upon ourselves
Untitled Slide
- ""Cole studied Peter. Peter hadn't sounded like this before. Cole wiped his sweaty hands on his pant. It wasn't like he had meant to hurt anyone."" Cole realize that he didn't mean to hurt Peter in his first Circle Justice meeting. It was a small 1% change he showed so far in the beginning of the book. Then again he reminded himself that all these things wouldn't have happened if Peter had kept quiet about it. (Page. 47)
Untitled Slide
- ""Mustering all his strength, he raised his head, and with a weak and pitched voice he called into the darkened branches, "Are you okay?""" Before, Cole could only curse at them and become irritated at the sight of the baby sparrows. It shows that the has changed a bit. (Page. 93)
Untitled Slide
- ""I've quit drinking."" Cole's mother said. Throughout the first half of the book, Cole's mother, Cindy Matthews, was a drunkard; a quiet puppet doll who couldn't say much, which she couldn't protect Cole. This time around, she's doing what's right and being more sure of herself. (Page.144)
Untitled Slide
- Cole said, """I started making a canoe, but I knew that was wrong, so I cut this deep groove so I couldn't try again. When I started carving the eagle, I've finally slept good""" Cole is finally being true to himself and thinking twice about what he's doing. A huge shock he did was telling Edwin that truth about what he was doing! This shows how he's beginning to change from a juvenile delinquent to a healing and forgiving teenage boy. (Page. 219)
