Recovering species

Why does it matter?- Many species are threatened. Aug. 1998 675 plant species, 468 animal species, were on the endangered list.
How does it affect us today?- Animals are recovering because people realized we need animals to keep the environment healthy.
Recovery plans- Breading Programs, Protecting Habitat Areas, and protecting species from hunters.

Baseball Records

Why does it matter?- To show baseball greats records and then what people need to do to beat them.
How does it affect us today?- Friendly races between players to break them is a model of good sportsmanship.
Example: The home run record race between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa

Women's Sports
Why does it matter?- New pro athletes provide American girls with positive role models.


How does it affect us today?- Women are allowed to do sports in there own league.

Extreme Sports
Why does it matter?- It keeps people nice and healthy. Extreme sports are about individuality , creativity, personal goals, and having fun.


How does it affect us today?- It's very popular and it helps people get nice and healthy and you can have fun!

Special Olympics
Why does it matter?- It's a competition for individuals with mental retardation. Makes different people feel good about themselves.


How does it affect us today?- Mental people have a chance to do the Olympics. They still have it today.

Special Olympics Facts
It's the world largest sports organization for children and adults with disabilities. It was founded in1968, The founder was Eunice Kennedy Shriver. The special Olympics provides year around training and competitions to more than 4.4 million athletes in 170 countries.

Extreme Sports Facts
Is certain activities of high danger. They have speed, height, and specialized gear. Examples of Extreme sports: BMX,XGames, Snowboarding, Snowmobiling, and many more.

Baseball Records Facts
In 1998,St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Mark McGwire broke the home run record and it was 62 home runs he hit to break the record. Baltimore Orioles' Cal Ripken JR. Broke the consecutive game record with 2,632 consecutive games.

Recovering Species Facts

As many of 30 to 50 percent of all species are possibly heading toward extinction by mid-century. Also 99% of currently threatened species are at risk from human activities, primarily those driving habitat loss, introduction of exotic species, and global warming.

Women's Sports Facts

Women's sports grabbed the nations attention during the 1990's. In 1998,the U.S. women's ice hockey team brought home a gold medal from Nagano, Japan. In 1996 they won gold medals in basketball, Soccer, And Softball.
