SHAHADA

Shahada

  • Pronounce Shahada twice in front of two Muslims.
  • Affirms Monotheism, and Muhamad is the messenger of God.
  • First word spoken into an infants ear, and word that you say before you die.

SALAT

Prayer 5 Times Daily

Salat

  • Emphasizes religious disciplane, spiritually, and closeness to God.
  • Dawn, Noon, Mid-Afternoon, Sunset, After Nightfall
  • Wash your hands, face, arms, and feet before you pray in a mosque
  • Muslims pray are able to pray anywhere, but mosquues are preferable.
  • Men and Women are seperated, and they begin when the prayer leader(Imam) says (God is most great)

ZAKAT

Charity

Zakat

  • Wealth becomes pure by giving some away.
  • Sharing helps control greed.
  • Pays for school fees, soup kitchens, clothing, shelter, orphanages, and hospitols.
  • Zakat is similar to Tzedakah and Tithes.
  • Share 2.5% of their wealth a year.

SIYAM

Fasting During Ramadan

Siyam

  • Before Day break they eat.
  • People who cannot survive without food do not have to fast.
  • Teaches Self-Control.
  • The 9th month of the calender is when God revelaed his first mesage to Muhamad
  • At the end of Ramadan there is a big feast called Eid al-Fitr (eed-AL-fitter)

HAJJ

Pigramage to Mecca

Hajj

  • Once you get there you must change into Ihram. This shows that we are all even.
  • Circle the Ka’aba 7 times.
  • You follow the steps of Hagar by running up and down a hill 7 times, and drinking from ZamZam spring.
  • You pray at Mt. Arafat (where muhhamad got his last sermon).
  • Throw stones at pillars the resemble Satan.
