WHAT DID HE DO? WHY?

  • Henry had 6 wives.
  • He divorced his first wife, Catherine of Aragon because she could not provide him with a son to be his heir.
  • He shut down monasteries because the wealthy monks were becoming lazy and not doing their service.

  • King Henry was granted divorce by the Archbishop.
  • This angered the Pope and English Catholics because marriage was supposed to be eternal.
  • He was made Supreme Head of the Church in 1534, which began the reformation.
  • By the time of Henry's death, the Lord's Prayer was said in an English Bible.
