PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The parts of the brain

Corpus Callosum

The corpus callosum consists of a large bundle of fibers connecting the right and left hemispheres of the brain.

Amygdala

The amygdala is involved in processing emotions, and fear–learning.

Dentate Gyrus

The dentate gyrus may play an important role in translating complex neural codes from cortical areas into simpler code

Brain Stem

It plays an important role in maintaining homeostasis

Broca's Area

Broca's area is involved mainly in the making of spoken and written language and also in language processing and comprehension.

Cerebellum

The cerebellum monitors and regulates motor behavior, particularly automatic movements

Cingulate Gyrus

The cingulate gyrus is thought to directly drive the body's conscious response to unpleasant experiences

Hypothalamus

It controls many autonomic functions such as hunger, thirst, and body temperature

Hippocampus

It is important as an early storage place for long–term memory

Occipital Lobe

The occipital cortex is the primary visual area of the brain.

Perirhinal Cortex

The perirhinal cortex plays an important role in object recognition and in storing information

The Pons

The pons is the region in the brain most closely associated with breathing

Premotor Cortex

It is involved in preparing and executing limb movements

Primary Motor Cortex

The primary motor cortex is critical to initiating motor movements.

Somatosensory Cortex

The somatosensory cortex receives tactile information from the body.

Subiculum

This deals with learning and memory

Superior Temporal Gyrus

It is responsible for processing sounds.

Thalamus

It is involved in relaying info between the cortex and brain stem and within different cortical structures

Wernicke's Area

It is a functionally defined structure that is involved in language comprehension

(Dorsolateral) Prefrontal Cortex

It is a critical part of the executive system, which does planning, reasoning, and judgment.

(Medial) Prefrontal Cortex

It is a critical part of the executive system, which does planning, reasoning, and judgment

The Basal Ganglia

It regulates the initiation of movements, balance, eye movements, and posture.

The Limbic System

It is a group of brain structures that is involved in processing and regulating emotions, memory,
