CAREER INTERVIWE

BONNIE WARREN: FISH PLANT WORKER

In June of1980 she graduated from St. Michaels all grade school. Then in September started working in a law firm doing basic work because at the time there was a law suit against the refinery in Arnold's cove and the company was hiring.

Then she went on to work at the Icewater Seafoods fish plant.

She has been doing this for 35 years since. Her job consists of doing different things every night. Somethings she may do is pack block, work machinery, pack minced fish, and trimming. On a normal night she will work 4pm-1:30am

The benefits of having this job is that she can stay in her hometown of Arnold's cove and provide for her family

The skill she uses most often is communication. This is because in order to get the work done more efficiently she needs to communicate with her teammates.

The best thing about Bonnie's job is the people she works with. This is because it makes the job more enjoyable and because of this it makes the job easier. One thing she don't like about the job is the it is physically demanding and can be hard to keep up with at times. If she could change one thing about her job it would be to work 4 days a week for 10 hours instead of 5 days for 8 hours.

This is the job she will do on to retirement. She can advance in the company by becoming a trainer, quality control manager, or superior.

This job is very much a team effort with most things. This being a good thing because for most things Bonnie enjoys working alongside of someone or with a team.

Someways this job could effect your health is there is a lot of lifting and bending so it puts physical stress on your body. Also by standing on concrete and doing a lot of repetitive work, you can develop other health problems later in life.

This is not the career Bonnie originally wanted but because of family issues at the time she chose the fish plant. If she had her time back she would have want to school to be a airline pilot.

One piece of advice she would give about a career is find something you can see yourself doing for the rest of your life and take pride in it.
