THE BERLIN BLOCKADE

• Organized by Stalin
• Stalin blocked USA and UK railway, road, and canal access
• They wanted to force the USA to let the Soviets supply Berlin with food & Fuel
• To give the soviets control of Berlin

A DIVIDED BERLIN

• Berlin was deep inside Soviet East Germany
• Gave the USA a foot hold inside the Eastern Bloc
• Some Germans in East Germany did not want a commie government
• Better jobs in the west
• Easy to get to west Germany

DIVIDED BERLIN

• Many Germans moved to the West to the East
• Skilled workers left for the west - no skilled workers in the East
• This looked bad for the Soviets &Communism
