History

  • Dates back to early 5th century BC
- Scientists are not 100% positive where this disease started.

Overview

  • A type of skin cancer
  • Originates in epidermis
- The cells that come in contact with it become cancerous and multiple quickly.

  • The fairer the skin, the more likely you will get it.

  • 10,131 will die in 2016
  • UV light, light colored skin, light hair
- Also, it is estimated 76,380 new cases of melanoma will be diagnosed in the U.S. in 2016
-Some risk factors include (list them) and UV stands for (Ultraviolet)

Risk factors you can change/not change

  • Smoking, exposure to sun = can change
  • family history, genetics = can't chnage

Symptoms and preventions

  • Most important sign = new mole-like spot that is changing.
  • Limiting contact with UV rays and avoid tanning beds.
When I say changing, I mean it is changing it's color and size and shape.

- Another simple way to prevent is just looking for abnormal moles.

Treatments and tests

  • Surgery, immuneherapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy.
