HIS BACKGROUND

• He was born in Monroe, Louisiana
• He graduated from L.V. Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas.
• Earning his bachelor of music in composition from Southern Methodist University.
• Went on to receive his masters and doctoral degrees in composition from the University of Michigan

• His first instrument to ever try was the trumpet in 4th grade but slowly lost interest, and stopped playing in 7th grade
• However when he moved to Richarson, TX, he was blown away by the band program there and that's when he knew what he wanted to do

• He currently lives in Los Angeles, California, where he is a professor of composition at the University of Southern California
• Is an American composer of orchestral, choral, chamber, and concert band works

HIS MUSIC

• Ticheli first started to mess around with the idea in high school
• He wrote a piece in his junior year and his jazz band played through it his senior year. He said it was awful but with the courage of his teacher, he got inspired to continue on...

• Going into his freshman year of college, he began wonder what would happen if he changed notes and put something different on the page
• With that, he began to arrange pieces
• His inspiration, Vacations on America by Charles Ives was what triggered him to really be a composer, till this day..
