Greece is located at the southeast end of Europe

CITY STATES

  • Athens
  • Sparta
  • Corinth
  • Megara
  • Argos are just a few

THE GOLDEN AGE

  • The age began with the unlikely defeat of a vast Persian army by badly outnumbered Greeks and it ended with an inglorious and lengthy war between Athens and Sparta.

ATHENS

  • Athens was the largest and most powerful Greek state. It was a city with lots of public buildings and shops
  • Athens did not have a king, it was ruled by the people as a democracy. The people of Athens believed that no one group of people should make the laws and so citizens could choose the government officials, and vote for or against new laws. The people of Athens chose their ruler.
