PRESENTATION OUTLINE

SCHOOL SMART

RELEVANCY

  • Look for the value in the process of doing something that you might find irrelevant (such as taking a “pointless” class).
  • Build intellectual muscle by getting involved.
  • The relevancy of a class isn’t always found in its subject matter.
  • To evolve, get involved.

BOREDOM

  • It’s easier to control boredom if you recognize it when it begins.
  • Try to act like you’re engaged in class even if you’re not; it could actually help reduce your boredom.
  • Don’t let boredom become a life-long mental habit; it could cause you to deal with it in unhealthy ways.

PROCRASTINATION

  • Procrastinating will not only mean that you still have to do it, but you will also experience more stress since you have to rush to get it done.
  • Don’t avoid doing things because you “don’t feel like doing them”.
  • Often, jumping into tasks you don’t want to do will give you enough energy and motivation to finish them.

LISTENING

  • Listening is a critical part of learning.
  • When you’re getting distracted or judgmental due to your surroundings or thoughts, think “Not now!” and refocus.
  • Try to process information or try to get in “The Zone”, when your mind is quiet and calm.
