EARLY LIFE

MOTHER TERESA

  • Mother Teresa (Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu) was born in Macedonia on the 26th of August 1910.

  • At the age of nine her father died upsetting her happy and comfortable life

  • When she was eighteen she moved from Macedonia and joined a group of Irish nuns called the sisters of loretto

MOTHER TERESA

  • She soon started her religious training and finished her final prayers in 1937

  • From there mother Teresa took an intensive medical training course

MOTHER TERESA

  • Her first task was to school children who could not afford education

  • Mother Teresa soon was being offered financial support to fund her work and volunteers

  • Soon she had a group of people to assist her in her work. They were called the Missionaries of Charity

  • In 1957 her group expanded their work running nine primary schools

  • She then proceeded to open an orphanage for abandoned children

RECOGNITION

  • Mother Teresa’s group kept getting bigger in the 1970s

MOTHER TERESA

  • Soon she started winning awards for her work

  • Some of these awards included
  • Pope John XXII peace prize and a generous donation from Joseph Kennedy Jr.

  • By 1979 Mother Teresa and her group had more then 200 operations over 25 countries

  • It was in this year that she was awarded the Nobel peace prize

  • Sadly Mother Teresa passed away on the 5th of September 1997
