• Breeding season makes males get territorial and defend their spawning areas aggressively

• The Red Shiner prefers backwaters,pools, and shorelines with muddy water and sandy bottom.
• The Red Shiner lives in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, Minnesota, Illinois, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Arizona, and more
