The biggest thing Goff notes to have changed his life is the way he loves. The love that the Bible describes for us is a love that simply does. Love, rather than being a feeling or emotion, is an action. Love is a verb or something you do instead of just feeling. “Love is a do thing. It’s an energy that has to be dissipated” (Goff 49).

Besides being a New York Times Best-Selling author and sought after, influential, motivational speaker, Bob Goff additionally works as a law attorney in a Washington law firm. Bob Goff also pioneered a nonprofit human rights organization in Uganda, India, Nepal, Iraq, and Somalia, called Love Does. “‘I want to know if you will be Counsel for the Republic of Uganda”(Goff 61).

An example of logos in Bob Goff’s book includes the quote in which he describes true friendship in a logical manner as he explains “You know what it is about someone that makes them a friend? A friend doesn’t just say things; a friend does” (Goff 73).

Bob Goff utilizes Ethos in his novel when he describes how “This kind of invitation happened often because, even though the formal meetings were over, friendship creates a whole new economy. When people realize there’s no agenda other than friendship and better understanding, it changes things” (Goff 73). This example is Ethos because Goff is talking about his children’s new found friendship with hundreds of world leaders they had traveled to meet.

Goff gives an example of Pathos as he explains “What I learned from Randy reinforced the simple truth that continues to weave itself into the tapestry of every great story: Love does.” (Goff 9). The story preceding this conclusion added an attachment to the relationship and love Randy had for Bob and that’s why this quote proves a solid example of Pathos.

On example of a device Goff used was a metaphor when he said “It was the Crystal Cathedral of fine dining” (25). This helped readers imagine his restaurant and heightened the conflict that would come. Goff also utilized a hyperbole when he exaggerated that “We had about 3 dollars to spend for each person who was coming to the wedding, maybe less” (54) Using this device gave readers a laugh as they read about how they managed to assemble a wedding on such little budget.
