First Oil Well Discovery

  • Anthony F. Lucas, Patillo Higgins, and John Galey found oil on January 10,1901.
  • The Texas Oil Rush produced 10,000 barrels of oil a day.

Population and Economy

  • When they found oil everything started to change. Especially the economy and population.
  • People were discovering land and fields so they could build farms and homes.
  • They started selling oil and goods which made Texas get money and increase in people and improve quality of life.

Prohibition

  • There was Prohibition on alcohol sales.
  • The 18th Amendment of the United States established Prohibition on alcoholic beverages declaring production, transportation and sale of alcohol illegal.

National Women's Rights Convention

  • It was a convention to discuss the social,civil and religious rights of women in the U.S.A.
  • This took place from November 18th-21st, in Houston, TX.

19th Amendment

  • The 19th amendment became ratified on August 18,1920.
  • The 19th amendment stated that women had equal rights to vote.
  • This took years of civil protesting and disobedience to get this bill passed.
  • This was passed by Congress on July 24, 1920.

The 19th Amendment Continued

  • The 19th amendment was lobbied by Minnie Cunningham.
  • The 19th amendment stated,"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of gender."

SUMMARY
This era was about women having the right to vote, a lot of business opportunity's including oil which led to safer working conditions and factory's devoted to safety. These were some of the big changes that happened during this era and why life is different now in Texas.
