WORDSWORTH
-Decided to write a new kind of poetry that was "well-adapted to interest mankind permanently"
-Believed good poetry was "the spontaneous overflow of good feelings"

CHARACTERISTICS
-Language was simple and unadorned
-Involved spontaneous emotion and self-revelation
-Rural setting

-Emphasized beauty and mystery in nature
-Saw man as a mirror for nature's wonder
-Glorified imagination

NOTE:
Romantic poetry differed from its predecessors in which it emphasized feelings and simple beauty instead of witty arguments.
