What is it?
A cell membrane is like an outer shell that surrounds the cytoplasm of a cell.

What are its functions?
The cell membrane regulates what goes in and out of a cell, thus maintaining homeostasis

What is it made of?
The cell membrane is made up of lipid molecules (phospholipids), glycolipids, cholesterol, and certain proteins with specific functions

Differences
Some membranes have an extra lipid bilayer, which is a layer of lipids. This provides extra protection
