Gene cloning

What is a clone?

A clone is NOT a twin

If you were to clone yourself...

Your clone would start out as a baby

And grow into a person with the same genes as you!

But that does not guarantee you will look alike

Your twin will develop their own personality.

Causing them to have their own style and make their own choices

Now that you know what a clone is

Let's learn how a clone is made

First their is a surrogate mother, a mouse, for example

Then their is the mouse we will be cloning, we will call him Mickey

Lastly, we would need a mouse to donate one of its egg cells

Cloning steps

  • Insert somatic cell into petri dish
  • Use sharp pipette to remove the nucleus
  • Insert egg cell into petri dish
  • Use sharp pipette to remove nucleus
  • Insert somatic cell's nucleus into egg cell

Steps one and two

C, the sharp pipette is sucking out A the nucleus.
Letter B is a blunt pipette used to hold the cell during nucleus removal.

steps three and four

As you can see, the sharp pipette is removing the egg cell's nucleus

step 5

Insert somatic cell's nucleus into egg cell

Next, the egg is inserted into the surrogate mother and she becomes pregnant
