CLAIM TO FAME

  • Messenger of the gods
  • God of boundaries, travel, communication, trade, thievery, trickery, language, writing, diplomacy, animal husbandry, and my favorite , athletics
  • Stole his half brother Apollo's cattle

BIRTH

  • Hermes was born in a cave in Arcadia, Greece
  • His believed mother and father were Zeus and Maia, one of Atlas's daughters

HERMES AND THE CATTLE OF APOLLO

  • Back when hermes was only an infant, he wanted to steal a herd of cattle from his half brother Apollo .
  • When he came upon the herd, he started to cut the hooves off the cattle and turning them backwards.
  • Apollo soon found that his herd was missing. The footprints were backwards so he was confused.
  • Eventually, Apollo found his cattle in a cave where Hermes had led them. Apollo knew that Hermes had done this, so he went to Hermes' cave.
  • He found Hermes sleeping, then he took Hermes to Mt. Olympus to be tried under his father, Zeus.

HERMES AND THE CATTLE OF APOLLO CONTINUED

  • At first, Hermes denied everything, but then told the truth. Zeus found the story funny, so he didn't punish Hermes.
  • Hermes then returned the cattle and along with the cows, he gave Apollo a lyre, an instrument he made himself.
  • In return, Apollo gave Hermes a golden rod to lead the cattle with. After this, a great friendship came between these two gods.

QUOTE

  • I thought Spartans fought with honor. Yet you seek to kill me when I have no way to defend myself? Not fair!
  • But you have your own sense of honor, right, Kratos? And what has that honor brought you? Nothing but nightmares of your failure. Today you may defeat me, but in the end, Kratos, in the end you'll betray only yourself.
