Slide Notes

Everyone in my family has different hair. My mom's hair is frizzy and coarse. My own hair is thick but soft. My sister's hair is thin and long as can be. We're all different when it comes to our hair. We all have a distinct hair type. We're not the same, we're different. I take good care of my hair, I put treatment in it to keep it soft and conditioned. While I use hair product, my sister won't put any hair product in her hair. She says she doesn't want chemical on her hair. While my mom doesn't do anything with her hair but just wash it! My mom's hair once was beautifully long and had amazing hair. Now her hair is worn down and like I said, is coarse. I guess hair can change texture as you get older, thins out. I don't want that to happen to my hair. But since it happened to my mom, it'll probably happen to me. Hair can make you look a certain way. If you did something new to your hair then you'd look different. That goes to show that hair is a characteristic of someone's appearance. It doesn't define that person, it just shows a physical feature of that one person.

different Hair

"Everybody in our family has different hair." pg. 6

My sissy, michelle

"She's just my sister and that was not my fault..." pg. 8
My sister Michelle and I are survivors. We've been to hell and back together. The way we came up wasn't the best. But we got through it, together. Whenever I need someone to talk to, she's there for me, always. She's always been that amazing role model towards me. She never got in trouble as a kid, and I always thought the attention was always on her. Turns out, it wasn't. She used to always tell me that the reason why she'd never get in trouble was because she wanted to be a good role model towards me and she was. I'm so thankful for my sister. I really don't know what I'd do without her around. I miss her so much, she's in her first year of college at VCU! I'm so proud of her because she was the first one out of my whole family to go to college. It can't get better than that!

Laughter

"Nenny and I don't look like sisters..." Pg. 17
Personally, I think my sister and I look like sisters. We have the same laugh, we think alike, we look alike, we say the same things, we text the same way, and many more things! My sister is so funny, she makes me laugh so hard! I make her laugh too! We just love to laugh together! Laughter is a great thing, it brings everyone together, and something you can look back on and just smile thinking about!

MIce

"Close your eyes and they'll go away..." Pg. 31
In my house in DC, we had a mice problem. I remember all the times when I heard the mice squealing in the walls and in the ceiling. I remember thinking, "Poor guy." My aunt would set up mouse traps all around the house. I also remember hearing them squeal in the trap as they got caught. I would have to pick up the dead mouse. Put it in a bag. Go outside, and throw it away in a public trashcan. I was the first one to see a mouse in our house. I was downstairs in my basement one day and I saw one run across the floor! I then ran up the stairs, screaming, and told my aunt what I saw! She didn't believe me at first, but then believed me once she saw one for herself! We caught a lot of mice in those traps. I got used to seeing mice. Dead ones. Alive ones. Ones that were in the process of dying. It wasn't scary or gross to me anymore. I even named one smokey! I'll never forget those mice!

The family of little feet

"...and their feet very small." Pg. 39
My family has small feet too! The only person in my family that doesn't have small feet is my sister Michelle! She wears a size 9 or 10 or something! The rest of us is just sizes 6 to 7! We have small feet, that's just the way it is! But of course, everyone is different. We all like to wear different style shoes, tennis shoes, high heels, flats, boots, etc.

Celebration

There are a lot celebrations that go on in families! In my family, we celebrate a lot of things as well! One of the traditions we have is, go to Ocean City every summer for 2 weeks! I have so much fun there for that amount of time. There are memories that my family has endured that I will never forget! We go to the beach, go to the boardwalk, play mini golf, go to the movies at least once.

hips

"They're good for holding a baby when you're cooking..." Pg. 49
In my family, some of us have hips, some of us don't. My sister and I have hips, but it seems like everyone else doesn't. Our body shapes are like the same. Michelle, my sister, and I always talk about that!

First JOb

"I thought I'd find an easy job..." Pg. 53
I haven't had a first for real job before. But I did have my own cat sitting business when I lived in DC. I would go to people's houses and watch after there cats while they were gone or out of town. I would feed them, clean there houses, brush them, and most importantly I would play with them! I would enjoy doing this job. I had cat jobs all around my neighborhood. I would make a lot of money too!

Abuelito

"I know he will have to go away, that he will..." Pg. 56
My grandfather, I call him Papa, he's really old now. He has dementia, and parkinson's. He and I used to be very close when I was younger than I am now. He lives with my mom and I. He's not the same anymore. He has dementia and Parkinson's. It's very sad to see him like this because him and I used to be very close. He would sing to my sister and I before bed, he would sit out on the front porch and wave bye when we were leaving for school. Now, he doesn't even remember my name. When I ask him what my name is, he doesn't say anything and he'll say my mothers name. It's so sad to see someone who was so happy and so joyful all the time, and to see him just sit on the couch and stare at the wall. I miss his old ways, but I have to accept him for the way he is now. I will always love my Papa! The memories will always be there!
