SYMPTOMS

• Muscular coordination problems
• Changes in personality
• Brain shrinkage
• May cause blindness or myoclonus

THE CAUSE

• A mutation in the gene that contains the information on how to synthesize normal prion proteins causes CJD
• This produces harmful prion proteins
