  • Was born into middle class protestant family
  • After his mother's death, moved to Linz, Austria
  • 1932, age 26, he joined the growing Austrian Nazi Party suggested by Ernst Kaltenbrunner (his friend)
  • 1934 SS Corporal at Dachau concentration camp
