SCIENTIFIC NAME

  • Eublepharis Macularius
  • Gekkonidae is the largest family of geckos, containing over 950 species in 51 genera.

GENERAL DISCRIPTION

  • Skin: Their skins do not bear scales but appear at a macro scale as a papillose surface which is made from hair-like protuberance developed across entire body.
  • Geckos are polyphyodonts and able to replace each of their 100 teeth every 3-4 months.

HABITAT AND RANGE

  • They have a wide distribution among the world, they mostly live in rain forest in S. America, Africa, Australia and S. Asia.
  • Their lifespan is 6-10 years, and they are carnivore. Under emergency situations, geckos are also be able to shed their tails to attract predator's attention.

ANYTHING INTERESTING

  • Geckos vary in size. Smallest species of geckos, dwarf geckos, reach 3/4 inches in length. Largest geckos, tokay gecko, reach 14 inches in length.
  • Geckos mate several times during the year, females produce 2 eggs after mating.
  • Teflon is the only material which gecko cannot stick, and walk without gliding.
